Tonight, August 5th is the 45 anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s death. Like many in New York, the entire Meanspeed staff will be at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Some say this death has been one, as Nigel Tufnel of Spinal tap might say, “Better left unsolved, really.” One has to asked: HOW MANY MEN WERE CREEPING AROUND HER WITH THIS SONG’S THEME?

In a similar way, with a chord progression that could not be any more ordinary, along with an ordinary melody, bass and guitar: HOW IS THE SONG SO SPOOKY? At the exact speed of foreboding, songs between 114-118 beats per minute, the speed is the secret. The element of spookiness is undeniable, true and never explained properly. Would Sting want us to know? Do you really want to know? The secret of the haunted nature of Every Breath You Take is: speed. Why is the speed of foreboding still an inside the inside the industry secret?

The #74 ranked song on the Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Song of All-Time is called “Superstition” was a single from the album Songs In The Key Of Life.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder is the single best musical effort where one person was the key operative in composition, performance of all instruments and production. That is only my word and opinion, by definition personal and therefore not speaking on behalf of the Meanspeed Music Company in general, as James T.S. Manning, our chief calibrator, is absent from the office today, and might find a Paul McCartney compilation of which he would offer as “better.” This is just the staff having some fun. We know: James and his Beatles! To which Sophia and I usually reply: it’s not a single effort, as Stevie’s. So, James, enjoy your day off, you will get a chance to speak. I’m not My fine man, even factoring the fact that Stevie is blind-Songs In The Key Of Life is a better effort than Band On The Run, as much as we love that also. James Manning, this is my message, as I did your work for you today: the “Stevie Wonder is a musical genius” joke? No joke!

James just called. Jeff beck is the guitarist on this song–uh oh!

ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE EXPLAINS

Wonder debuted this hard blast of funk live while opening for the Rolling Stones in the summer of 1972, intent on expanding his audience beyond Motown. The twenty-two-year-old former child star had written it at the drum set, humming the other parts to himself. Wonder had been collaborating with Jeff Beck and initially intended for Beck to record the song, but when Beck hadn’t finished his album it became the first single from Talking Book — and Wonder’s first Number One hit in nearly a decade.

During the gala, a song that could be sang in different manners at different speeds was striking. In my house, my mom is fond of saying , “we were dysfunctional before it was fashionable to be that way.” While my mom did introduce me to the amazingly fantastic CBS drama that is all about family, what we have all come top realize in the United States at least is that even the functional families have their dysfunctions.

This song about keeping your chin up in the face of literally feeling like a motherless child is sung at the slow end of grace, where songs between 70-76 beats per minute generally emote poised grace, where the similar 63-69 bpm range tends to reflect a musician emoting ritual, ceremony and romance. The two featured young actors singing the song have overcome very hard times, and they are indeed happy, poised and graceful at this ceremony.
